Principal's Message

Welcome to McKinley Elementary, Home of the Mountain Lions!

We are the administrative team at McKinley, and we are excited to be an integral part of your child's development. We want to assure you that we are committed to educating our scholars in all academic content standards as well as social development in a safe and enriching environment.

We know it takes a three-way commitment to develop our children. We all need to do our part as our school, families, and students to ensure a successful future for ALL of our scholars.

Families need to spend time each day with one another in an intentional manner. Put down the electronics and talk about your day. Another amazing way to see how your child is doing is to read daily. Sit for 10 or 15 minutes and read with your child. Listen to them read. Talk about what they read. Ask questions about the story, who, what, when, where, and why about what they read.

Attendance is a HUGE part of learning for your student. If they are not at school, they are missing highly engaging, well-planned instruction from our AMAZING teachers, they are not missing the “work”. Our students need to be at school, on-time, for the entire day, every day. Coming late or leaving early regularly negatively impacts learning.

Your child has a job in working on their success as well. They need to work hard at school. They are expected to be engaged in their classrooms and learning, and to follow our safety rules on the playground and on our campus.

For our part, we will work tirelessly to ensure we are providing first-best instruction, interventions, and are engaging your students in their learning and social development every day.

We want to sincerely thank you for entrusting us with your children. We are parents too and understand how important this trust is. Our teachers and staff work hard to connect with your children and know how important a role they are playing in your child’s life. Thank you.

We will always want to make sure you have communicated with your student’s teacher whenever you have a concern. Many times, concerns are rooted in miscommunication or are lost when we are listening to our children and they have misunderstood an instruction or a direction from an adult on campus. We want to give our students the opportunity to be understood, listened to, and are able to clarify any misunderstanding. Let’s not forget, they are children and their perceptions are their truth. Let’s also not forget that all of our teachers and staff chose to work in a school because we have a genuine love of learning and our students. Parenting and teaching are extremely similar. They are both very hard jobs. In fact, we always tell people raising our children right is the hardest job in the whole world. The point is, we are all here for the right reasons… our kids. Let’s work together to ensure their success.

Thank you for your trust in us. We are excited for this opportunity to make your child’s future a success!

With Appreciation,

Becky Weaver and Mayra Orozco
